Control Unit, Elsner GmbH, 2007

Elsner Electronic is a leading specialist in shade and ventilation control systems for sun rooms and conservatories. To partner with the existing Weatherstation, Elsner has now released the new "Solexa" and "Arexa" Control Units. Both controllers connect via radio signal with the Weatherstation, and depending on the transmitted weather data, sun-shades, blinds or windows can all be controlled. Individualized settings are easily made by any user thanks to the intuitive and clear design of the interface.

Label printer "MiniZebra", Zebra Technologies International, 2006

Zebra Technologies is a worldwide leading company in on demand printing solutions on thermo transfer basis. ahape has been engaged for the design development of the starter series "Zebra MZ" consisting of two mobile receipt printers and a charging station. The challenge was to develop a worldwide applicable formal language to ease the global marketing. Due to cost pressures the intelligent implementation of joined parts was a prerequisite.

The team was responsible for the design from concept to detailing. The definition of the parts and the structural design was worked out with Zebra developers on the ground near Boston, USA.

In the meantime the project is implemented in North and South America, in Europe as well as Asia and is used in different industries as retail chains, public buildings and by freelancer.

Design of a control element similar to a joystick. The focal point of the design was the ergonomic arrangement of the buttons and their inclusion in a formally unified concept.

Display on disinfection devices and dishwashers, Meiko, 2003

A display was designed that is integrated in a membrane keypad. Given the increasing variety of languages used, characters were to be avoided. The aim was to devise a symbol language that was internationally comprehensible. A vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) was selected as the display technology.

Development of a terminal for keeping staff time records. In addition to the design of the housing, particular attention was focused on the design of various membrane keypads, which were used in accordance with the technical level of the device.

Gripper arm for enveloping machines, Bell + Howell GmbH, 1999

Gripper arm for rapid-action enveloping machines. Special sensor equipment replaces the previous mechanical principle, enabling higher through rates for filling envelopes. Two buttons enable the precise setting of the gripper arm.
